At BeamNG, we’re always excited to see how students and educators put BeamNG.tech to use in innovative and purposeful ways. Today, we’re proud to highlight a standout project developed within the PSD research group at the University of Pisa. This interdisciplinary group brings together professors, PhD candidates, and Master’s programs in Robotics and Automation Engineering and Vehicle Engineering programs.

Authored by Davide Serpi and Stefano Cimmino, the technical memo is part of their PSD 2025 Master’s project, carried out under the supervision of Prof. Marco Gabiccini. What they’ve put together is a useful resource, especially for those who are just starting out with BeamNG.tech.

Their memo serves as a practical introduction to using our simulation platform. It covers how to request and install BeamNG.tech, gives an overview of the soft-body physics engine, and guides users through the basic setup — including loading and testing vehicles in the environment.

What stands out about this work is how clearly it presents a complex system. Davide and Stefano have broken things down into manageable, practical steps, making it easier for others to get started with BeamNG.tech. Whether you’re a student, researcher, or developer interested in simulation or vehicle dynamics, this guide is a helpful starting point.

We’ve published the memo with their permission to help others in the community learn from their experience. Give it a read — and if you’re working on something similar, we’d love to hear from you too!
